Following up on The Anime Network’s acquisition and Summer content lineup, film industry trade publication Variety reports that The Anime Network has reached a deal with YouTube to stream its content library on the video sharing service as part of a broader content licensing deal including new partners Sony, Lionsgate, the BBC, Starz, Discovery and National Geographic to offer up full-length movies and TV shows for free on the portal.

Other new partners include TMS, Cinetic Rights Management, Current TV, Documentary Channel, First Look Studios and IndieFlix with YouTube looking to better position itself competitively against fast growing video portals such as Hulu, Joost. Veoh, and other branded portals as a way to offer premium content, which it was lacking compared to the aforementioned sites.
