funimationFunimation has made a few announcements regarding new licenses at its panel during Katsucon today.

  • The D-Rights produced Bamboo Blade anime about a high school kendo teacher’s adventures in forming a female kendo team to compete with his friend’s team to win a bet for a year’s worth of food.
  • The GDH/Gonzo Rosso Tower of Druaga series co-production which became notable last year for being the first to be streamed internationally after airing the day before in Japan.  The acqusition includes the Sword of Uruk series currently airing in Japan
  • The GDH production Blassreiter, which was the second series to be streamed internationally after Japanese airing.  The series deals with a demonic plague sweeping Germany and series protagonist Joseph Jobson’s attempts to fend off the apocalyptic end of humanity by being the only one that can control the demonic form within him
  • The GDH production Dragonaut, about a future Earth where humans breed dragons to fend off asteroid collisions, before being attacked by space faring dragons.

All of the above will be released in two part season sets beginning later this year, with Tower of Druaga being split into two complete sets.

Funimation will also announce more acquisitions next week on its newly launched company blog.
