A leaked cover shot of the next volume of Weekly Shonen Jump releasing on December 6th has confirmed that Gintama will return to TV in Japan. Further speculation suggests that the series will return next April for the Spring season, but nothing else has been confirmed at this time.
The TV series is based off of the manga authored by Hideaki Sorachi about the adventures of Gintoki Sakata who helps a teenager named Shinpachi Shimura and a teenage alien girl named Kagura who work together as freelancers and the three become known as “Odd Jobs Gin”, dispatching criminals and aiding the Shinsengumi.
The TV series produced by Sunrise originally ran for a total of 201 episodes from April 4th 2006 to March 25th 2010, but director Yoichi Fujita confirmed that the anime would continue once enough material was available to adapt from the manga. The first two seasons of the series are available on DVD via Sentai Filmworks.
