PS3 Slim Changes: Some Good, Some Bad (Updated)

Following up on the announcement of the Slim, a few changes have been confirmed for the new model that make it different from current models.

First is the inclusion of Sony’s Bravia Link in order to simplify usage with a standard Sony Bravia remote when connected to a compatible display. Another change is the inclusion of PS3 Firmware 3.0 which will introduce a few changes to the XMB interface such as improved status and friend lists, avatars, dynamic themes and improved Trophies.

Now for the bad, as in no user removable hard drive and no option to install Linux presumably due to the low popularity and poor promotion of the option outside of Japan as well as no PS2 backwards compatibility.

At least its $100 cheaper…

Update: Looks like the option to swap hard drives is still available, as the hard drive has been relocated from the left side of the console to the bottom right of the base directly below the disc drive with a panel on the bottom to secure the assembly.
