Nintendo DSThe Japanese Nikkei business newspaper reports that McDonald’s Japan and Nintendo are jointly developing a custom training application called eSmart for internal use that will be deployed via Nintendo DS consoles in its 3.700 Japanese restaurants later this year.

The report also mentions that the initiative was developed at a cost of $2.2 million and is designed to cut new employee training time by up to half according to estimates given by McDonald’s in the report, citing the familiarity of the DS console to new part-time employees as a factor for the marked reduction in time spent training.
