Kodansha’s K MANGA Announces International Expansion

Humberto Saabedra

Kodansha’s K Manga has announced in the wake of its first anniversary as a digital manga platform its first major international expansion that includes the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Mexico, and Brazil, with the promise of future international availability, one of the biggest complaints for the otherwise popular, if sometimes polarizing platform. K-MANGA was initially announced and launched by Kodansha in 2023, being restricted first to the USA and Japan to leverage the popularity of simulpubs from Japan.

The expansion addresses the demand for the platform  outside of the US, and the confirmation of further expansion bodes well for the ongoing viability of the service. However, the biggest complaint in the purchase system still remains an issue with users, being made up of an often confusing combination of tickets and points that tends to frustrate new users. Whether the purchase system complaints will ever be addressed remains to be seen, but the promise of future international expansion means that at least one major digital manga platform is still viable nearly two years after launch.
