GameStop Makes Key Changes To Pro Membership, Renders it Pointless (Updated)
GameStop's PRO membership loses all semblance of value with Thursday's changes.
Humberto SaabedraUPDATE 06/12/2026:
According to newly updated internal documents, rewards points for new members will end on July 15th of this year. This means if new members sign up on the 15th of July or afterwards, points will no longer be earned on purchases as the membership will no longer be a part of the rewards program.
New members who sign up or existing members that renew before July 15th will continue to earn points as normal for one year before their expiration. (Ex: If you sign up on the last day of the program, July 15th, this means the last day you can earn points is August 15th of 2027)
All points will expire on August 15th, 2027, when the program officially sunsets. More details are expected on the status of the rewards program for the GameStop credit card in the near future, as it is currently sold with the rewards program and points that don’t expire. The original article follows below.
Gamestop has made the most significant changes to its Pro membership program in the past five years, and the changes effectively render the program useless for the vast majority of its current and potential membership base. According to the employees recounting conference calls regarding the changes held earlier today, points earned under the current Pro Rewards program will be earned by new membership sign ups from today until July 15th.
After that date, those same new accounts will no longer earn points or receive the monthly $5 credit that was once a cornerstone of the Pro Rewards program. Accounts that were active as of July 15th and existed prior to June 11th will continue to earn and redeem points until August 15th 2027, at which time the rewards points program and monthly credit will end simultaneously. Employees have also confirmed that the internal systems responsible for looking up customer accounts and offers have been substantially altered to no longer allow account overviews or direct customer coupon and offer redemption, those must now be redeemed by customers using their own devices.
The latest and most drastic changes to the PRO membership follow the elimination of the used game discount in favor of the now discontinued Pro Rewards point program and the removal of the Game Informer subscription perk in August 2024, which led to the initial dissolution of the magazine before it was bought back by former editorial staff and relaunched as a completely independent company in March 2025.
With these changes, the value of the Pro membership has been effectively driven to zero, and has no value for even the most frequent customers, let alone the casual shoppers that make up the bulk of GameStop’s intended market for the membership. More updates are expected in the next week while the company predictably stumbles through the changes instead of outlining a concise plan to offer an updated alternative with equivalent value, while customers with memberships are still waiting to receive emails regarding the changes.
