Verizon to Add Alltel Customers to Mobile to Mobile Service, Change Branding

As a part of the merger between Verizon Wireless and Alltel, Alltel customers will be able to freely call Verizon Wireless customers as soon as network integration is completed, with an online tool available soon to check and see if the number qualifies for the newly branded Verizon Mobile-to-Mobile calling service.

Currently, Verizon Wireless customers are able to call Alltel customers as part of the IN network, but Alltel customers are not able to call Verizon customers as mobile-to-mobile. Verizon has explained that this is because Verizon was only able to prepare their systems before the merger was transacted, and that they are working to integrate Alltel’s systems quickly.

Verizon is dropping the in branding which had become a staple of the carrier since 2004 beginning on February 15th.  In related news, Verizon is also rebranding the Broadband Access and inPulse prepaid service under the more generic Wireless Mobile Broadband and Prepaid brands on the same aforementioned date.
