voltron_defender_of_the_universeHollywood trade paper Variety is reporting that Voltron license holder World Events Productions has brokered a video game publishing and development deal with Classic Media to have development house THQ produce a series of games based on the Voltron property. The games would follow directly after the “Defender of the Universe” series and be released this Fall for multiple platforms.

The Voltron franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, with the announcement of a new TV series currently in production for Viacom‘s Nickelodeon in Voltron Force, a toy line by Mattel and a live-action film being produced with Kickstart Productions and Atlas Entertainment. The last Voltron video game released in the United States was released by Sony Pictures Television Television in 2009 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise for the iPhone.
