The Introduction

Humberto Saabedra

I realize this may be a bit late considering the site has been around almost three months, bu.t better late than never I suppose.  I’d like to thank all of the readers that have stopped by and taken time out of their day to read the site so far.

My name is Humberto Saabedra, and I’m the Editor-In-Chief of this site.  I originally had a similar site in 2007 under a different domain name, but ended up ignoring it due to lack of time and the weight of commitments to PhoneNews.com, which still makes up the bulk of my day.

AnimeNews.biz is a pet project I’ve had in mind ever since I saw the relative lack of in-depth industry coverage and the rather poor state of transparency within those companies  I’m not here to bash on shows or people, but I feel coverage could use a bit more of an identity when it comes to types of news covered and less of a focus on the tertiary aspects of anime such as fashion shows and art exhibits.

I really only started to talk about the anime industry in October of 2007 when Geneon USA collapsed and I started to provide commentary on the business side on the AnimeNation Forums, and recently on Mania AoD regarding ADV before realizing that a lot of people had taken what I said and ran with it, though not to the point that it was gospel, as I still have my fair share of detractors.

I am a professional reporter by day and cover the wireless industry for PhoneNews.com, which has been my stepping stone to this point and has honed my skills as a writer and reporter with coverage relating to the wireless industry.  By night, I DJ and am a musician with experience in a/v work and mastering.

I have grown up with anime and have seen it grow from the racks of mom & pop video shops, to seeing major releases at Wal-Mart, but I do not consider it a major daily hobby outside of collecting figures, DVDs/Blu-Ray, and manga.

The biggest subject this site will focus on is the industry itself, along with the usual shows, manga, and other related things that fans actually want to know about.  Unlike the majority of sites, I prefer not to write in a critical tone unless it calls for a separate editorial and just let the news speak for itself, unless the news is interesting enough that a bit of snark could liven up the conversation.

Since my real name is on every article that I write, feel free to correct me or to add further information to the article if it adds context and improves understanding of the material, since I’m not one to know everything about a particular subject, but I do know a little bit about everything.  My goal is to give those people that do not like the editorial tone of ANN or the microposts on AnimeVice a place where they can grab the news without dealing with anything else.

I want to be one of the best in providing industry news and my goal is to serve you the reader with the highest quality in news reporting.

I hope you enjoy your time here, and if there are any questions or comments, please do get in touch.
