Select Comcast Wi-Fi Routers Cause Android Lollipop Wi-Fi Bug

A new bug has been discovered within Android 5.0 that causes Wi-Fi connectivity issues when connected to select Comcast-provided routers. The bug results in slower than average Wi-Fi speeds and lower performance than expected, with many customers experiencing timeouts and unstable connection errors as well. The above link from Phandroid also includes a partial list of affected Comcast-provided gateways.

Since Comcast gateways use IPV6 addressing as the default to handle address requests, Android Lollipop users are running into access problems as a result. Both Google and Comcast are now aware of the issue and are working on a fix. In the meantime, the only short-term workaround is to download the DNSet app to force IPV4 access on Lollipop in order to restore access speeds until Google and Comcast fix the problem.
