Samsung to Launch Android-Based Device for Sprint and T-Mobile Next Year

The English-language version of Korea’s etNews online IT news service is reporting that Samsung is developing an Android-powered version of the Korean market Omnia smart device for launch on Sprint and T-Mobile in the second quarter of next year.

To that end Samsung has joined the OHA working group and has had a dedicated team of 80 people developing and working with Android, Linux, and Java since the platform was first announced one year ago.

With this revelation, Samsung is hoping to draw attention away from the T-Mobile G1 and fuel anticipation and speculation about the device.  Sprint has also confirmed that it plans to offer an Android device next year but it did not give a specific timeframe when asked earlier this month at its yearly developer conference.
