Google to Launch Ediitions E-Book Sales Platform in 2010
Humberto SaabedraAccording to an email sent to Icarus Comics, Google will launch its Editions e-book sales platform next year and is providing publishers with assistance on preparing for the consumer launch of the platform in a bid to expand its reach beyond Google Books and compete in the same space as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
The revenue split for Editions sales is set at 63% publisher with 37% going to Google, which is already higher than Kindle and Nook sales percentages when factoring in exclusivity and other incentives being offered to authors and publishers to sell on competing platforms.
As of now, no other specific details have been confirmed regarding accessibility of Google Editions outside of internet browsers, though it’s expected that Google will leverage Android in some form as well either via the forthcoming Nexus One or the entire Android-based device lineup.
