AT&T Making Changes To GoPhone Plans On November 12th

AT&T will be making positive changes to its GoPhone plan slate on November 12th, with one of the changes already appearing on the carrier’s portal for people in select areas of the country. Many have already attempted to apply the new plans to existing accounts as they appear online, with customer service acknowledging that the plans will not be available until the aforementioned date.

The $60 smartphone plan will become a defacto “unlimited” data plan with a 512Kbps throttle after the first 2.5GB of data is used in a monthly service cycle, which is a much faster throttle speed than the current average of 128Kbps or slower, depending on the carrier. This change means that AT&T will be less punitive with throttling speeds than the rest of GoPhone’s competition, which may drive data users to the service, as the plan previously featured a hard cap and required the purchase of $10/1GB data packages to continue using data before the end of a monthly service cycle. A new $40 monthly plan with 500 minutes of talk time and 500MB of data will also be made available on the same day.
