Sprint MVNO Voyager Mobile To Increase Prices Substantially Next Month

Humberto Saabedra

Voyager MobileAs one of the least known Sprint MVNOs, Voyager Mobile doesn’t have the name recognition of either Ting or FreedomPop, but the company was best known for offering the lowest rates in the industry for monthly prepaid service, even though the company is still somewhat shrouded in mystery.

That is all set to change as its monthly rate plans are set for a substantial increase next month that put them in line with other Sprint-powered MVNOs that rely on standard network access instead of VoIP/hybrid access like RingPlus, Republic Wireless or FreedomPop. Below, the email being sent out to current customers regarding the changes.

Hello from Voyager Mobile,

I’m writing to let you know about some upcoming changes to Voyager Mobile. We believe wireless service should always be affordable and available to everyone and we’ve upheld our commitment to providing true unlimited services – no caps, limits, or throttling.

To continue providing the best service, support, and quality, effective January 1, 2014, we’ll be changing the monthly fees associated with our wireless plans. You can view the changes below:

Unlimited Talk – $27.00*
Unlimited Talk & Global Text – $29.00*
Unlimited Everything – $45.00*

We remain committed to providing affordable, high quality wireless service. All our monthly plans will still remain unlimited, meaning no caps, limits, or throttling.

The previous monthly rates started at $17 for unlimited voice, $19 for unlimited voice/text messaging and $39 for unlimited voice, messaging and data which were once considered the lowest rates in the industry, were it not for also having the most additional taxes and fees typical of Sprint-powered MVNOs. With the changes going into effect, the lowest rates for Sprint-powered flat-rate service now belong to the hybrid/VoIP services such as FreedomPop, TextNow, Republic and RingPlus.

Voyager Mobile also confirmed new additional services in the email such as ExtendedPay payment extension services for monthly service payments and unlimited global calling through its long-teased Global Voyager program, now set to debut on January 15th.
